The much hyped and controversial reality show Big Boss is back to entertain, but will it be able to sustain viewers in the coming months. Going by the initial episodes it seems like the makers have customised this year’s Bigg Boss with a heterogeneous star cast to play the perfect roles against the backdrop of heaven and hell moderated by the ever charming Salman Khan.
Pitted against high TRP Saas-Bahu TV serials like Diya Aur Baati and Qubool Hai on a prime time slot.. Big Boss – Saath Saath in its seventh edition seems like a perfect TV serial drama very much on lines of Hindi masala potboiler with an ensemble and colourful star cast. With Salman Khan as a host, the house with so-called bifurcated heaven and hell, sets an ideal backdrop for the star cast to behave and misbehave in the name of entertainment.
Unlike the previous seasons this time there are 15 contestants including a dog who will soon be making an entry in the house. But going but first few episodes, it seems the show has been formatted with every housemate playing a role or to say a ‘character’ which, of course, mirrors their real lives.
TV faces seems to rule the house this season. Ratan Rajput plays a dutiful beti like her on-screen image…Pratyusha Banerjee the rebel bahu, Kushal Tandon the footloose beta, Anita Advani the sulking mummy, Kamya Panjabi declared on day one she will be the in-house vamp. On the other hand, the show has an in-house bhaiyya and bhabhi in Apurva and Shilpa. Hazel Keech and Gauhar Khan are the glamour girls, film director Rajat Rawail plays the buffoon, wrestler Sangram the angry young man.. and Armaan Kohli is the uncle ji of the house. While VJ Andy is the in-house comedian to add quirky bits. From Bollywood Kajol’s sister Tanisha…adds the urban ‘Yo’ flavour in the house. Swedish beauty and debutant actress Elli seems like a Katrina Kaif in making and like previous imported Big boss girls firangi girls this will is another Sunny Leone this time.
Unlike the previous seasons, this time there will be guest entries every week and it is rumored that ex contestants like Dolly Bindra, Imam Siddique, Sambhavna Seth, and Rakhi Sawant, coming every week (as guest housemates) will have the usual dope of plotting, fights, scheming and clash of egos and personalities. While the lives of 15 locked up celebrities will be dished out with 70 cameras fighting them from food to loo while many will bare their secrets all with strangers in front of the world…
The popular reality show though this time will manage to rake in eyeballs and enough publicity to make these celebrities household names in the coming months. But it seems a very predictable show this time. Nevertheless, Bigg Boss surely promises a fresh change from regular TV shows on air.
For those looking for voyeuristic pleasure of human trial and error will have an ample doze of entertainment. While for those looking for a twisted break for saas-bahu sagas, this one surely will be a good time-pass. While for regular viewers the great Indian soap factory products serve you fresh soaps on telly. So take your pick and get entertained.
